Roxy Music's Phil Manzanera chats with Iris at Abbey Road Studios

Roxy Music was one of those bands that just burrowed into my soul. Loved the vocals of Bryan Ferry, and loved the guitar of Phil Manzanera. "Avalon" will always be one of my favorite albums of all time. Phil was such a wonderful person to meet. He's always involved with some kind of project, and his involvement in world music was so interesting to me. Enjoy the interview.

Founding member of Fleetwood Mac, Peter Green, talks to Iris at Abbey Road

This is from the Abbey Road Interview archives. Peter Green was considered to be one of the best guitar players in the universe when Fleetwood Mac formed. He was and still is a sweet and fragile soul who was only into the music, not the rockstar part of the job. If you want the whole story about Peter, then check out Mick Fleetwood's book because he loved Peter very much. Anyway, I was lucky enough to have a chat with him at the Abbey Road sessions, and the thing I remember most is talking to him about the song "Oh Well." Enjoy.

Lead guitar for Bad Company and Mott the Hoople, Mick Ralphs talks to Iris at Abbey Road Studios

In 1999, the most amazing thing happened. I was asked to join other broadcasters at Abbey Road Studios in London to interview an assortment of classic rock legends. One of my favorite moments was talking to Mick Ralphs, lead guitar player for Bad Company. He was warm and charming, and I felt like I had known him forever. We talk about his favorite Mott the Hoople song, Bad Company's catalog of songs about love, and I melted a whole lot when this man hugged me. Sigh. Miss you Mick! Hope Bad Company tours again. Enjoy this little trip down memory lane with me.

Cream's legendary vocalist and bassist, Jack Bruce, chats with Iris at Abbey Road

When I did this interview at Abbey Road Studios in London, September 1999, we all thought there was no way in the world that Cream would ever perform together again. But they did. Jack Bruce brought along his wife and son to the interview sessions at Abbey Road Studios. As it turns out, his wife had ties to Oregon, so we got along very well. He answers questions such as what is his favorite Cream song to perform live? Who hasn't Jack played with?
How did Jack meet Ringo? Enjoy this little chat from London.

Ian Paice talks about touring, or not touring in the USA. Sorry about the background noise, but there was a lot going on. Crazy radio people all around me. By the way, I LOVE Deep Purple! Rock hard, play loud!

The Pretenders Chrissie Hynde visits the Abbey Road Studios and chats with Iris

I want to be Chrissie Hynde! When the first Pretenders album was released, full of great songs and loaded with attitude, I knew this was a woman to respect. She is without a doubt the coolest woman on the planet. It's Chrissie's band, and I love her music. She talks about her influences, including Iggy Pop, and of course her music. I apologize if I am too much of a fan to be cool, but for crying out loud....It's CHRISSIE!

Beatles driver and friend, Alf Bicknell, talks about the boys with Iris at Abbey Road Studios

Alf Bicknell was one of the kindest gentlemen I've ever met, and that's why I'm sure The Beatles loved him as well. He was quite a charmer too. He was on the "inside" but kept their secrets, and was regarded as a friend. From 1964 to 1966, he was the Beatles' chauffeur, ferrying them to and from concert venues and movie sets. When the band traveled in John Lennon's Rolls Royce Phantom V, Bicknell was usually behind the wheel. He even inspired the song, "Baby You Can Drive My Car." Sadly Alf passed away on March 9th, 2004 at the age of 75.
